WHY STUDY IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA?

Universities in America are widely known for their quality of education, teaching, and research. The U.S. is known for its popularity as being the number one and top study destination for international students seeking higher education abroad.

Academic study and experience from a U.S. university have a very positive reputation in the international job market. A U.S. education dramatically enhances a student’s long-term career goals.

The U.S education system is the most flexible higher education system for international students. The system offers many course choices within a program and the opportunity to major or change specialization is available.

EDUCATION SYSTEM IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

USA higher education system is divided into Undergraduate and Graduate education – where the Undergraduate students are required to take courses across several disciplines before choosing one major field of study to specialize in.

Another diversity of the education system is the community college – two-year colleges that award an associate’s degree (transferable), as well as certifications.

There are many types of associate degrees, but the most important distinguishing factor is whether or not the degree is transferable. Community college graduates most commonly transfer to four-year colleges or universities to complete their degree.

The U.S. academic calendar typically runs from September to May and can be divided into two academic terms of 16-18 weeks known as semesters. Alternatively, some schools may operate on a quarter or trimester system of multiple terms of 10-12 weeks.

International students who have an F-1 and M-1 visa are allowed to work on-campus and in specified training programs for a maximum of 20 hours a week. Students are not allowed to work off-campus during their first academic year. Additionally, students can apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT) – a program that allows international students in the United States to work temporarily up to 12 months. OPT can be completed both before or after completing your studies, but it’s important to remember that you are only allowed to work 12 months total including pre-completion of degree and post-completion of degree.
